Waitsburg Middle School Basketball

WAITSBURG - The Waitsburg Middle School Girls basketball team played their first season game at Rogers in College Place on Wednesday, January 22.

In the 28-23 loss, the Cardinals were led by seventh graders Kaitlyn Paul with nine points, Audrey Kiefel had eight points and five steals, Laila Long scored four points and rebounded seven in her basketball debut, and Mady Potter led the team in rebounding with eight board, and she scored two points.

"The girls played well for their first game of the season," said Coach Karen Huwe.  "We have sixth and seventh graders playing against seventh and eighth graders, and we only have three with any basketball game experience."

Sixth graders contributing were Ava McCaw, Jaylynn Gleason, Peyton Childers, and Shylo Hedges, as they helped Waitsburg's team outrebound Rogers 26-21. 

The middle school girls will play their next two games in Waitsburg. On Monday, January 27, they will play against DeSales, and on Wednesday, January 29, they will play against Liberty Christian from Richland. Both games will start at 4 p.m.
