[Photo caption] With temperatures in the 60s and the "fuzz" on the hills getting greener, it's beginning to look and feel a lot like spring these days. The Monteillet Fromagerie near Dayton is right on target when it comes to the new season. Cradled in owner Pierre Louis Monteillet's arms is one of the 120 kids and lambs born on the farm so far this year.

Representative George Nethercutt was given the Wheat Champion award this week by the National Association of Wheat Growers (NAWG) for his "exceptional leadership and dedication on behalf of wheat issues in Congress."
"Congressman Nethercutt is recognized for leading the fight to reform U.S. sanction policy," says WAWG President Terry Detrick, an Oklahoma wheat farmer. "We are very grateful to Representative Nethercutt for his continued efforts on our behalf. I think it is important that he is recognized for his contributions to the wheat industry and how much the wheat industry appreciates and needs that support."
"I'm proud to be known as a wheat champion," says Nethercutt, who authored the Food and Medicine for the World Act which is currently making its way through the United States Congress.

Camp Fire Girls commemorated its Founders Day on March 17, and its 65th anniversary during Birthday Week, March 16-22. All the Waitsburg groups worshiped at the Nazarene Church on Sunday. They provided the flowers and participated in the worship service. Sunday afternoon, they all enjoyed a swim party at Sherwood Center in Walla Walla. Each group has a special service project for Camp Fire Week. The sixth grade is cleaning the windows and mopping floors at the Fire Hall. Fourth grade is doing spring cleaning for the Nazarene Church. Blue Birds are picking up litter.

Odako Club was complimented by their sponsoring group, the Amity Art Club, at an afternoon tea March 21 in the Dorcas room of the Christian Church.
H. D. Conover is confined to his home this week after a fall at his home. He expects to be out again in a short time.
Seven members of the Waitsburg Boys and Girls 4-H Club dared the blizzard and tricky slats for a skating party at Spout Springs last week. Making the trip were Jean Gibson, Charles and Harvey Danielson, Penny and Ralph Jones, Teddy Collins and Sally Cole.

The Todd Fuel Co., which has been managed by Dolph Todd for the past five years, changed hands Thursday morning of this week when the stock fixtures and business was purchased by M. H. Land.
Mr. and Mrs. M. Zuger this week erected an unusually good-looking lattice fence across the rear of their Main Street property.
Roy Crall and family have moved from West Sixth Street having purchased a place on Second Street.

John Kinder this week sold his ranch of 160 acres situated in McKay Hollow about 6 miles north of this city to C J. Witt. Consideration $3,200. The deal was made through Hautchens and Holloway.
Mr. and Mrs. J. D. Lardlaw have adopted two orphan children, a little boy and a girl from the orphan home in Spokane and will educate them. The children arrived this week.
