Medals for Mat Birds

WAITSBURG-The Waitsburg Mat Birds wrestling team competed in two recent tournaments and brought home medals.

Twenty-four wrestlers traveled to Hanford High School on March 8 to compete in the Reactor Rumble Wrestling Tournament, which ran a separate bracket for boys and girls. The team sent twenty-six wrestlers to compete in the Burbank Brawl on March 15.

Over 1,100 wrestlers, aged 5-13, competed at Hanford, and the Mat Birds brought home twenty medals; first-through fourth-place medals were awarded.

At Burbank, the team brought home fifteen medals.

Ian Mertens at Hanford and Maggie Winona and Grace Eastman at Burbank celebrated with their teams after winning first-place medals at the events.

The Mat Birds' next tournament will be in Grandview on March 22.
