Easter Weekend
DAYTON — In the animated feature “The King of Kings,” a father tells his son the greatest story ever told. What begins as a bedtime tale becomes a life-changing journey. In his vivid imagination, the boy walks alongside Jesus, witnessing His miracles, facing His trials, and understanding His ultimate sacrifice. The “King of Kings” invites viewers to rediscover the power of hope, love, and redemption through the eyes of a child. The all-star cast includes Oscar Isaac, Kenneth Branagh, Uma Thurman, Sir Ben Kingsley, Mark Hamill, and Forest Whitaker. It is rated PG for thematic material, violent content, and scary moments.
On the Rotten Tomatoes website, the audience gave the movie a rating of 97%. Comments included, “Great movie! I’d recommend taking the whole family.”
The critics on the website were not as enthusiastic, giving it a rating of 63%, with one saying, “‘The King of Kings’ gives the Jesus story an animated treatment with some whimsical Dickensian touches. It’s nothing to write scripture about, but should provide amusing and possibly enlightening Easter entertainment.”
The Liberty Theater’s movie lineup includes; “The King of Kings,” “The Friend,” and “A Minecraft Movie.”
The theater’s Spring Melodrama, “Peril on the High Seas,” will be presented on May 9 –11 and May 16 –18. It is a hilarious dramedy set in the roaring 20s. A beautiful heiress, Merry Ann Sweet, sets out for her first adventure as a young woman. She will discover fun, friendship, and maybe even romance. However, storms are brewing on the HMS Majestic as a kidnapping plot masterminded by the vile and villainous Snively Swine unfolds. Will dedicated police Sergeant Willy Ketchum be able to stop Swine’s dastardly plan, or will it succeed in whisking away our hapless heiress?
