WAITSBURG — Twenty Waitsburg High School FFA students will attend the FFA State Convention at Washington State University in Pullman May 8-10.
The students qualified for State after placing at District Leadership in Asotin on March 26. The top four in each category at District advanced to State.
1st Place Agriculture Education- Marion Duncan.
2nd Place Rituals- Sophia Castillo, Kayla Kuykendall, Rowdy Cole, Gage Mynear, Liam Kiefel, Katie Allen.
4th Place Prepared Public Speaking- Cedar Stegall.
4th Place Beginning Parliamentary Procedures- Kayla Mikesell, Griffin Hinchliffe, Trace Nesje, Pilar Easton, Emerson Underwood, Kenzie Castillo.
4th Place Rituals- Sophia Castillo, Kellen Coulston, Jake Lynch, Joslin Nodine, Stella Pearson, Shaunna Hilton.
“I had a lot of fun. I presented first in my event, Prepared Public Speaking, so I was done really early and had a lot of extra time to meet people from other Chapters and learn more about the other contests,” said Waitsburg FFA’s Vice-President Cedar Stegall about her experience at District Leadership.
Waitsburg FFA hosted the District VI Veterinary Science competition in Waitsburg on April 1. Waitsburg placed first, earning them a spot at State.
The students, Chasity Paddock, Sarah Daves, Cedar Stegall and Marion Duncan traveled to Tacoma and competed on Friday, April 11.
There were 45 teams from all over the state competing. Even though Waitsburg did not place, the team did well as it was the first year for some of the members.
